Stereolithography (SLA) provides accurate concept models, master patterns and investment casting patterns in record time. Along with PolyJet, SLA is among the most accurate and precise rapid prototyping technologies available. Complete in-house finishing capabilities for production-like prototypes ensures that your models and patterns are delivered on time and ready for immediate application.
Production As Fast As
Because of their accuracy and ability to reproduce fine details, stereolithography models are ideal for use as concept models, form and fit studies and as master patterns for a variety of molding techniques. Options for finishing include color-matched painting, texturing and pad printing to give your model a “production quality” look and feel. SLA models and patterns can be produced in a matter of hours from any popular CAD system. Starting with 3D CAD geometry, Solid Concepts’ engineers will guide your most demanding project through every step of the process to guarantee timely delivery. In-house developed 3D viewing and translation software, dedicated quality department and special finishing techniques make it possible for Solid Concepts to provide the highest level of quality at competitive prices.
SLA Technology Overview
Good for prototypes and master patterns that need to be built quickly and economically
± 0.015″ or± 0.002″/”
Excellent for prototypes and master patterns; provides excellent detail and requires less finishing work
25″ x 29″ x 21″
± 0.010″ or± 0.001″/”
Provides exceptional detail in less time, requiring less post finishing work; suitable for high-quality parts and patterns

SLA Standard is the fastest and most economical stereolithography process available at Solid Concepts and is available for a number of materials and applications. This process is suitable for prototypes and master patterns that need to be built quickly. Typical SLA Standard tolerances are ± .015″ or ± .002″/” (whichever is greater), however tighter tolerances may be available on a case-by-case basis.
Built in 0.007″ layer thicknesses, SLA Standard offers good feature detail and sidewall characteristics, but requires more finishing work than SLA Premium and HDSL to get rid of layer lines. SLA Standard is suitable for parts of any size and offers an unlimited build envelope making large parts no problem for our finishing department. When you pair the largest SLA machine available on the market with our proprietary knowledge of large part assembly you can expect extremely accurate large geometries.
SLA Premium is an excellent option for prototypes and master patterns, offering better accuracy and detail than SLA Standard while producing parts faster than HDSL. Typical SLA Premium tolerances are ± .015″ or ± .0015″/” (whichever is greater), however tighter tolerances may be available on a case-by-case basis.
Built in 0.005″ layer thicknesses, SLA Premium produces parts with excellent features and requires less finishing work that our SLA Standard process. With an unlimited build envelope, large parts with fine feature detail are readily available through our finishing department. Choose from a wide variety of SLA materials including clear Accura 60.
HDSL (High-Definition Stereolithography) offers the best accuracy available in SLA. This technology uses SC 5500 material to produce high-quality prototypes and master patterns that do not require extensive hand finishing. Typical HDSL tolerances are .010″ or ± .001″/” (whichever is greater), however tighter tolerances may be available on a case-by-case basis.
With a layer thickness of 0.004″ to 0.006″, HDSL’s thin layers combined with the highly accurate SC 5500 material enable the production of fine feature details with more precision than both SLA Standard and SLA Premium. Thinner layer thickness also equates to a better raw surface finish and better reproduction of slow sloping surfaces. While PolyJet HD offers the absolute best available detail and edge visualization in photocurables, it is recommended for small parts and prototypes. HDSL is ideal for parts and prototypes that are slightly larger in size but still require exceptional detail.
Large Geometries are no problem for Solid Concepts. We take on parts that others cannot or will not. Our arsenal of equipment includes the largest SLA machine available on the market. Pair this with our proprietary knowledge of large part assembly and you can expect extremely accurate large geometries.
Value is the core of our mission statement. As one of the only service bureaus with a dedicated Quality Department, Solid Concepts consistently delivers high quality parts at affordable prices. This type of value comes from complete data security, on-time delivery, material choices, accuracy, expert part finishing and engineering expertise that helped pioneer the industry. Our expertise allows us to produce accurate prototypes, in less time and at a lower cost than any other service provider.
Fast & Reliable
Fast & Reliable service is a standard in which Solid Concepts prides itself. With 28 state-of-the-art SLA and PolyJet machines, we are the largest dedicated service provider of photocure in North America. Capacity translates to better on-time delivery. Large programs are no problem since we can commit several machines to demanding programs and complete even large orders quickly. Security is guaranteed with every project. Solid Concepts is committed to protecting the privacy of our customers and has gone to great lengths to give you peace-of-mind. We meet ITAR security regulations, and carry both ISO 9001 and AS 9100 certifications.
Finishing Expertise is often the difference between a good prototype and a great prototype. Backed by many years of model making experience, Solid Concepts offers various hand finishing, non-cosmetic & cosmetic paint, texture, EMI & RFI shielding and plating options to closely simulate your production part. Complete in-house finishing capabilities and expert painters ensure production-quality prototypes delivered on time and ready for immediate application.
Material Choices is a luxury available with Solid Concepts. A wide variety of materials were meticulously selected to meet your project needs and give you true freedom of choice. We conducted an in-depth customer survey to determine what material attributes you find most important, then hand selected the best materials from four of the top photocure suppliers.
