PolyJet

PolyJet technology utilizes a high precision 3D printing process. PolyJet is a layer additive technology with layers as thin as 16 microns (0.0006″) making it an excellent option for presentation models and master patterns for advanced urethane castings. The PolyJet rapid prototyping process uses high resolution ink-jet technology combined with UV curable materials to quickly and economically produce highly detailed and accurate physical prototypes.

PolyJet parts are produced without any support vestiges, and with excellent up facing and down facing surfaces. A variety of materials, including clear, Shore A and Shore D materials are available.

Applications

PolyJet is best suited for applications where accuracy, detail and surface finish are important and the part fits within a 5″ x 5″ x 5″ (127mm x 127mm x 127mm) build volume. While the maximum build volume is 19.3″ x 15.4″ x 7.9″ (490mm x 390mm x 200mm), other Rapid Prototype technologies may be more cost-effective for larger parts.

Typical applications include electronic components and connectors, electronic packaging, presentation models, knobs, buttons, medical devices, fittings, valves and parts with complex interior features. PolyJet has also been used for tooling in low-temperature applications. It makes an excellent mold with releasable surfaces without requiring a secondary process for non-cosmetic applications.

PolyJet Standard

PolyJet Standard is the fastest additive manufacturing process available and produces highly accurate parts with superb fine feature detail. This process is suitable for prototypes, parts and master patterns that are smaller in size (roughly a 5″ cube or smaller). With a maximum single build envelope of 19.3″ x 15.4″ x 7.9″, larger parts can be made but may be cost prohibitive. Typical PolyJet Standard tolerances are ± 0.005″ or ± 0.001″/” (whichever is greater), however tighter tolerances may be available on a case-by-case basis. Standard minimum feature size is 0.012″.

With Layer thickness of 0.0012″, PolyJet Standard’s thin layers enable the production of fine feature details with more precision than SLA. PolyJet Standard also produces excellent low-sloping surfaces due to its thin layers, thus reducing the look of stair stepping.

PolyJet HD

PolyJet HD offers the absolute best accuracy, edge visualization and fine feature detail available of all of the additive manufacturing technologies (SLA, PolyJet, SLS, & FDM). This process produces an excellent surface finish and is best for prototypes and parts that are smaller in size. With a maximum single build envelope of 19.3″ x 15.4″ x 7.9″, larger parts can be made but may be cost prohibitive. Typical PolyJet HD tolerances are ± 0.005″ or ± 0.001″/” (whichever is greater), however tighter tolerances may be available on a case-by-case basis. Standard minimum feature size is 0.012″.

PolyJet HD has a layer thickness of 0.0006″, the thinnest available from Solid Concepts’ Rapid Prototyping technologies. Thinner layer thickness equates to a better raw surface finish and better reproduction of slow-sloping surfaces.

PolyJet Flex

PolyJet Flex is the fastest, most cost effective additive manufacturing process available for parts requiring highly accurate details while simulating variables of rubber or silicone-like material for small prototype components. With a maximum build envelope of 19.3” x 15.4” x 7.9”, PolyJet Flex parts are available in flexible black material with Shore Hardness ranging from 27A to 95A.

PolyJet Flex has a layer thickness of 0.00118” (or 30 microns) and is best for tactile testing on new products, ideal for reveals of industrial design features, or to simulate rubber for form and fit studies. Standard tolerances for PolyJet Flex are ± 0.005” or ± 0.001”/” (whichever is greater) with tighter tolerances available on a case-by-case basis.

PolyJet Over-Mold

PolyJet Over-Mold is the fastest, most cost effect additive manufacturing process available for parts requiring highly accurate details and tactile feedback. This process is suitable for prototypes and parts that need to more realistically simulate production parts. With a maximum build envelope of 19.3″ x 15.4″ x 7.9″, PolyJet Over-Mold builds parts using multiple materials ranging in shore hardness. A single build is capable of incorporating Shore Hardness from Shore 27A to Shore 95A. PolyJet is more cost effective for smaller parts.

With a layer thickness of 0.00118” (or 30 microns), PolyJet Over-Mold enables the production of accurate clam shell housings, bosses and seams, with the added advantage the elastomeric material that portrays and conveys buttons, skins, and rubber boots making it ideal for reveals of industrial design features. This process is perfect for ergonomic studies.
