SOLID CONCEPTS ACQUIRES CTTI TO EXPAND CNC, FRP AND URETHANE CASTING CAPABILITIES

VALENCIA, California - August 4, 2008

VALENCIA, CA – August 4, 2008 – Solid Concepts Inc., a world leading rapid prototyping and manufacturing company, has just finalized the acquisition of Composite Tooling Technologies, Inc. (CTTI) in Troy, Michigan, to expand their existing CNC and Cast Urethane products while adding Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) expertise to their offerings.

CTTI has had great success in the Midwest for over twelve years as a valued supplier to automotive and other local industries. Under the direction of Dave Mast and Tim Cochran, the company has grown to occupy 18,000 square feet by continually pushing the technology envelope with creative solutions. The company is well known for producing large prototype/pre-production urethane and FRP parts utilizing large platform CNC machines and proprietary short run tooling capabilities.

Jeff Lemker, Solid Concepts’ Vice President of Manufacturing, expressed his hearty endorsement, “We have studied many acquisition candidates and CTTI has proven to be a shining star representing a perfect fit to augment our capabilities. I have known Dave and Tim for over 14 years and this addition of perseverant and talented management to Solid Concepts is priceless.”

The consolidation of CTTI into Solid Concepts will provide existing CTTI customers with a broad array of prototype and production capabilities not previously available to them. With the addition of the Michigan facility, Solid Concepts now operates five U.S. production facilities in addition to having sales and project engineering representation throughout the U.S. and Canada.

  • SolidView
SolidView® software allows you to view, rotate, measure and communicate design intent with non-CAD users—starting with our free 3D CAD viewer—SolidView/Lite.
  • Prototypes
PolyJet™ & SLA® provide accurate concept models and master patterns in record time. Complete in-house finishing capability for production-like prototypes.
  • SLS & DMLS
SLS® produces rugged Nylon 11 and Nylon 12 prototype and production parts. DMLS utilizes metal and alloy materials to create strong metal parts without tooling.
  • FDM
FDM (fused deposition modeling) produces both prototype and production parts from ABS plastic, polycarbonate, and Ultem materials.
  • CNC
CNC prototypes, parts and master patterns are ideal in applications where the material property or size requirements make other prototyping techniques unsuitable.
  • Cast Urethane
Cast Urethane (a proprietary advanced casting technology and advanced formula polymers) produce strong pre-production and short-run production components.
  • Composites
Composites (fiber reinforced plastic) technology produces large, rigid, accurate panels with excellent strength-to-weight ratio and surface finish.
  • Tooling
Tooling from Solid Concepts provides quick-turn tooling options for Chinese tooling & production, export tooling from China, and domestic tooling, all with domestic project management.
  • Molding
Molding from Solid Concepts brings you the best of both worlds by providing Chinese pricing and lead times along with Solid Concepts quality and domestic project management.
