SOLID CONCEPTS INTRODUCES FREE 3D CAD VIEWER

New Solidview/Lite Allows Free Viewing of Popular 3D CAD Formats

DETROIT, MI - SEPTEMBER 14, 1999-Solid Concepts Inc. announced today at the Computer Technology Solutions Exhibition and Conference the immediate availability of SolidView/Lite, a free 3D CAD viewer based on their award-winning SolidView product.

SolidView/Lite allows Windows 95, 98, and NT users to view popular 3D CAD formats such as STL, OBJ, VRML, and SolidWorks part and assembly data. Free SolidView/Lite CD-ROMs are being distributed at Solid Concepts' Booth, #2348, at the Computer Technology Solutions Exhibition, which is being held at Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan. SolidView/Lite may also be downloaded from www.solidview.com. SolidView/Lite requires no license key or user registration.

In addition to viewing popular 3D CAD formats, SolidView/Lite users can also view and measure 3D data saved in SolidView's Solid File eXchange (SFX) file format. The SFX file format, developed by Solid Concepts, is a compact data structure that enables the easy exchange of 2D and 3D CAD data for design collaboration. Unlike other formats, such as VRML or STL, SFX files are highly compact and may contain various security options to protect selected design features.

Solid Concepts also introduced today new SolidView and SolidView/Pro software products. SolidView is a low-cost (under $100) Windows application that enables viewing and measuring of popular 3D CAD formats, as well as the ability to add markups and other annotations to existing SFX files. SolidView/Pro is a full-function 2D and 3D view and markup program that supports optional direct interfaces to IGES, VDA, and many native CAD formats. According to Company officials, this new product structure is designed to enable entry-level users to become familiar with SolidView's popular interface with a free viewer, and then provide a low-cost upgrade path as their communication needs expand.

"Many first-time users equate simple viewing with communication", said Ray Bradford, Solid Concepts' vice-president of Software Development. "Once they try to communicate complex design issues with a free CAD viewer, they suddenly discover that they need to be able to take accurate measurements and associate annotations with a particular view. The SolidView family of viewers offers everything from a powerful no-cost 3D viewer all the way to a complete collaborative engineering solution", explained Bradford.

The SolidView family of products from Solid Concepts includes SolidView/Lite, a free viewer of SFX, VRML, STL, and other 3D formats, SolidView, a very low cost view, measure, and markup tool for SFX, VRML, and other 3D formats, and SolidView/Pro, a fully integrated 2D and 3D view, measure, and communication tool.

  • SolidView
SolidView® software allows you to view, rotate, measure and communicate design intent with non-CAD users—starting with our free 3D CAD viewer—SolidView/Lite.
  • Prototypes
PolyJet™ & SLA® provide accurate concept models and master patterns in record time. Complete in-house finishing capability for production-like prototypes.
  • SLS & DMLS
SLS® produces rugged Nylon 11 and Nylon 12 prototype and production parts. DMLS utilizes metal and alloy materials to create strong metal parts without tooling.
  • FDM
FDM (fused deposition modeling) produces both prototype and production parts from ABS plastic, polycarbonate, and Ultem materials.
  • CNC
CNC prototypes, parts and master patterns are ideal in applications where the material property or size requirements make other prototyping techniques unsuitable.
  • Cast Urethane
Cast Urethane (a proprietary advanced casting technology and advanced formula polymers) produce strong pre-production and short-run production components.
  • Composites
Composites (fiber reinforced plastic) technology produces large, rigid, accurate panels with excellent strength-to-weight ratio and surface finish.
  • Tooling
Tooling from Solid Concepts provides quick-turn tooling options for Chinese tooling & production, export tooling from China, and domestic tooling, all with domestic project management.
  • Molding
Molding from Solid Concepts brings you the best of both worlds by providing Chinese pricing and lead times along with Solid Concepts quality and domestic project management.
