ID-Light™

Lightweight Appearance Models

Large, lightweight appearance models are now available with Solid Concepts' proprietary ID-Light™ technology. This process utilizes SLA advancements such that a thin outer shell is used to encase a drainable inner scaffolding-like matrix. Parts produced from this technology are both rigid and accurate, providing an excellent finishing surface. ID-Light parts build significantly faster and are about 1/12th the weight of solid SLA models. This technology is excellent for large non-structural appearance models, prototype body panels and fairings for automotive/transportation applications. Solid Concepts' finishing department offers two-part urethane paint options (for increased durability and strength) as well as cosmetic and non-cosmetic paint.

The Making of ZoomR

ZoomR, the superhero figure below, was created with ID-Light technology. Solid Concepts built, assembled and painted 6'4" ZoomR in less than two weeks. The ID-Light superhero weighs 29.2 pounds, 1/12th the weight of an equivalent 350 pound solid SLA model.

Industrial Design Applications

Finishing Options

Finishing expertise is often the difference between a good prototype and a great prototype. Backed by many years of model making experience, Solid Concepts offers various hand finishing, paint, texture, EMI & RFI shielding and plating options to closely simulate your production part. Complete in-house finishing capabilities and expert painters ensure the highest quality prototypes delivered on time and ready for immediate application. If you’d rather finish your parts, Solid Concepts offers hand sanding and primer paint services so your team can finish the parts quickly.

"Everything was perfect and the parts looked great! Thanks again for all your help in meeting our crazy deadlines. Then again, you probably live for that kind of stuff."

Composites
  • SolidView
SolidView® software allows you to view, rotate, measure and communicate design intent with non-CAD users—starting with our free 3D CAD viewer—SolidView/Lite.
  • Prototypes
PolyJet™ & SLA® provide accurate concept models and master patterns in record time. Complete in-house finishing capability for production-like prototypes.
  • SLS & DMLS
SLS® produces rugged Nylon 11 and Nylon 12 prototype and production parts. DMLS utilizes metal and alloy materials to create strong metal parts without tooling.
  • FDM
FDM (fused deposition modeling) produces both prototype and production parts from ABS plastic, polycarbonate, and Ultem materials.
  • CNC
CNC prototypes, parts and master patterns are ideal in applications where the material property or size requirements make other prototyping techniques unsuitable.
  • Cast Urethane
Cast Urethane (a proprietary advanced casting technology and advanced formula polymers) produce strong pre-production and short-run production components.
  • Composites
Composites (fiber reinforced plastic) technology produces large, rigid, accurate panels with excellent strength-to-weight ratio and surface finish.
  • Tooling
Tooling from Solid Concepts provides quick-turn tooling options for Chinese tooling & production, export tooling from China, and domestic tooling, all with domestic project management.
