Instant Quoting and Build System

ID-Light™ (Industrial Design Light) is only offered by Solid Concepts. Parts built with this technology are significantly lighter (about 1/12th the weight) and build faster than solid SLA parts. ID-Light has received excellent acceptance for large appearance models for office products, furniture, entertainment models, art, and architecture.

This light-weight SLA product is created with a proprietary laser scanning pattern such that a thin outer shell (about 0.030 to 0.040") is used to encase a drainable inner scaffolding-like matrix. ID-Light uses a custom formulated SC1000 photopolymer that allows for rigid and accurate geometries. Solid Concepts' large part assembly and shipping expertise make even large models possible with this advanced technology. Two-part urethane paint option is also available for increased rigidity and impact strength.

Entertainment industry professionals said that they would need to "move heaven and earth" to fabricate 6'4" ZoomR (pictured below) in four weeks. Solid Concepts built, assembled and painted ZoomR in less than two weeks.

Advantages & Disadvantages

  • Builds faster and costs less than solid SLA models
  • Lighter weight than solid SLA models
  • Lighter weight & better paint surface than CNC 10 lbs & 20 lbs foam
  • Cosmetic, non-cosmetic & two-part urethane paint options available
  • Not intended for structural applications (will break with impact or heavy load)

Typical Applications

  • Non-structural appearance models
  • Large custom trade-show/marketing figures
  • Entertainment: large detailed movie props, promotional figures
  • Art & Architectural models
  • Helmet mock ups
  • SolidView
SolidView® software allows you to view, rotate, measure and communicate design intent with non-CAD users—starting with our free 3D CAD viewer—SolidView/Lite.
  • Prototypes
PolyJet™ & SLA® provide accurate concept models and master patterns in record time. Complete in-house finishing capability for production-like prototypes.
  • SLS & DMLS
SLS® produces rugged Nylon 11 and Nylon 12 prototype and production parts. DMLS utilizes metal and alloy materials to create strong metal parts without tooling.
  • FDM
FDM (fused deposition modeling) produces both prototype and production parts from ABS plastic, polycarbonate, and Ultem materials.
  • CNC
CNC prototypes, parts and master patterns are ideal in applications where the material property or size requirements make other prototyping techniques unsuitable.
  • Cast Urethane
Cast Urethane (a proprietary advanced casting technology and advanced formula polymers) produce strong pre-production and short-run production components.
  • Composites
Composites (fiber reinforced plastic) technology produces large, rigid, accurate panels with excellent strength-to-weight ratio and surface finish.
  • Tooling
Tooling from Solid Concepts provides quick-turn tooling options for Chinese tooling & production, export tooling from China, and domestic tooling, all with domestic project management.
  • Molding
Molding from Solid Concepts brings you the best of both worlds by providing Chinese pricing and lead times along with Solid Concepts quality and domestic project management.
