CompositeCast™ Cast Urethane
CompositeCast, offered only by Solid Concepts, was developed over a two year period that included testing at six beta sites. Composite sheet material (fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar, etc.) is positioned in a precision Platinum Silicon mold. A proprietary fill method is used to fill the mold cavity along with the sheet material with our AFP materials. The result is a very tough and stiff cast part with B-side detail captured.
VolumCast Advantages & Disadvantages
- Very fast processing of complex parts and panels without hard tooling
- Excellent A and B-Side detail
- Composite-like performance (i.e., high flex modulus, high impact strength)
- Short mold life: ~25 shots
- Production rate: 2 or 3/day
- Not as accurate as Hand Lay-up FRP or Resin Transfer Molding
