ID-Light - New Technology From Solid Concepts

ID-Light™ is a new trademarked technology only available at Solid Concepts Inc. This technology utilizes Stereolithography (SLA) with a proprietary laser scanning pattern such that a thin outer shell is used to encase a drainable inner scaffolding-like matrix. ID-Light (Industrial Design Light) parts build significantly faster and are typically 1/5th to 1/12th the weight of solid SLA models. Projects previously requiring foam or solid SLA are now turning to ID-Light due to the sturdy lightweight properties of this process. This technology is excellent for large non-structural appearance models, entertainment models, furniture, art and architecture.

ID-Light Highlights

  • Builds faster and costs less than solid SLA models
  • Lighter weight than solid SLA models
  • Lighter weight than CNC (10 lb foam) for most geometries
  • Hard outer shell offers a better paint surface than 10 & 20 lb foam
  • Expertise in large part assembly and shipping
  • Two-part urethane paint option for increased rigidity and impact strength (Non-cosmetic paint also available)
  • Not intended for structural applications
  • Only offered by Solid Concepts

ZoomR, the superhero character for ZoomRP.com, stands at 6'4" and weighs 29.2 pounds. Solid Concepts built, assembled and painted ZoomR in less than two weeks. Professionals in the entertainment industry claimed it would be near impossible to fabricate ZoomR in twice that time.

Material Weight of ZoomR
ID-Light 20.2 lbs
Solid SLA 351.4 lbs
20 lb foam 97.0 lbs
40 lb foam 194.1 lbs
